Project Overview
Between July and September 2023, SCSA successfully implemented activities under the subcontract with SET, focusing on empowering young mothers through horticulture training. Out of 200 participants, 85% (188) completed the program, gaining practical farming, business, and life skills. Graduates have begun earning income through produce sales, equipment rentals, and training services, while also improving household nutrition. The project also supported local businesses and enhanced SET’s visibility in Kilosa District.
However, several challenges were encountered, including participant dropouts, limited support from some local government officials, unrealistic expectations from beneficiaries, land access difficulties, produce utilization issues, and heavy rains that disrupted activities. These challenges led to some delays and the need for a project extension, but overall, the project made strong progress in economic empowerment and community development.
